Sloboda Valentinu Urusovu! - Free Valentin Urusov!

Sloboda Valentinu Urusovu!

Free Valentin Urusov!
Announcement of Campaign Against Political Repression – March, 3th 2010.

At the end of 2008, Valentin Urusov, a worker of “Alros” was sentenced, at a framed trial in Yakutia, for the crime of daring to organize independent trade union of workers of “Alros”. Since the trial was such an obvious setup, and thanks to the international campaign against it, the politically framed sentence was reversed and, in May 2009, Urusov was released from the Siberian concentration camp.

Soon after his release, main actor of framing the trial against Urusov – lieutenant-colonel of Federal Security Service, Rudov – got arrested and charged for corruption and abuse of position. It wasn`t enough for the Yakutian court and for the owner of “Alros”, so they did not give up of persecuting Urusov and kept obstructing the right of  “Alros” workers to organize the trade-union.

Local Yakutian court, in a faraway Siberian town Udachny, fully controled by the owner of “Alros”, sentenced Urusov once again, once again unlawfully, to six years of forced labour, and he was sent to the camp again, where his life is endangered, especially since he suffers of severe lung and kidney diseases.

We are reminding the public of the fact that the owner of “Alros”, Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska is also a co-owner of Montenegro and owner of bauxite mine and Aluminum Plant in Montenegro, where workers have been striking for months because they have not received their salaries. Even Milo Djukanovic complained of Deripaska for his utmost arrogance and disrespect of the laws and contract provisions, “the arrogance leaning onto Oleg Deripaska`s wealth and force of his private security guard”. Oleg Deripaska is also being mentioned in media as businessman interested in “investments” in Serbia.

Together with workers and democratic activists wordwide, we demand immediate release  of Valentin Urusov from jail and dissmisal of charges against him.
